Academics Instructor (ELA-focused Position)

InfinityEd is based in Wilbraham, MA on Nipmuc, Pocumtuc, and Agawam land territories — We provide in-center, at-home, and online personalizing tutoring sessions, educational programs, and academic mentorship to elementary, middle school, high school, and college-level students based on their area of need or interest.


InfinityEd seeks to expand our instructional team with 2-3 positions available to match our clientele in search of an Academic Instructor/Tutor with experience teaching, facilitating, and engaging in educational spaces such as classrooms, workshops, project-based learning, and individual online and in-center tutoring. 


This work covers tutoring and instruction with students seeking assistance in; general education subjects (Math, Science, ELA, History, etc), standardized test preparation, essay and writing revisions, college application review, and creative writing programs instruction (as described below). 

*It is not required to have experience in all areas listed, but an interest to engage in a variety of subjects is expected.

SPRK (Seasonal Program of Reflection for Kiddos) is our youth-centered program that focuses on the introduction to creative writing and what creative outlets students can have in the form of writing. Short-term program. 


Creative Storytelling for Writers is our age-inclusive intermediate creative writing program that centers the purpose of storytelling and creating a vivid world, characters, setting, etc in short-form fiction. Mid-length program. 


Novel Kickstarter is our high school- college age advanced creative writing program that centers the fiction in the long-form; a novel, novella, prose narrative. The purpose of this program is to assist our up and coming authors in creating a practice and execution to a full-length novel. Long-term program. 


Creative Nonfiction is designed to engage students of any age/grade range interested in creative writing with a focus on nonfiction works such as academic and personal essays, autobiographical works, memoirs, journalism, critical essays, etc.

Homeschooling Program is an accessible way for students to engage in any program or academic assistance with Educators accommodating in-house sessions. 


In-center Sessions provide a space outside of the home and classroom for students to work one-on-one with their educators or in a group setting relating to their area of academic need or program interest. Our center also hosts recurring community events that sometimes fall into evening or weekend hours for instructor facilitation. 


Remote Sessions aims to accommodate students working outside of our center location (differing states, internationally, etc.) Remote sessions provide the same opportunity for students working in-center or through our homeschooling programs. 


Experience with remote learning is preferred. Google Suite.workplace, Figma. 


Note as you decide which program your area of skills and interest fall into applying for, you are making a commitment to that specific program’s timeline if selected. (We cannot hire folks unable to commit to a student's full program term.)

Tutors Duties and Responsibilities 


Academic Tutoring

  • Crafting curriculum/academic routine that assists students achieve their goals relating to material brought in by student/guardian, standardized test preparation, essay and writing revisions, college application review, and creative writing programs instruction. 

  • Scheduling students based on their and your availability. 

  • Assisting students with weekly assignments, projects, research, and other academic tasks revolving around their writing goals. 

  • Providing students with positive and constructive feedback, including each session into tracking documents for note-taking on what was completed during sessions and can be referenced back to. 

  • (Showcasing note-taking skills through weekly session notes being recorded in a living document to be shared. As well as QBC (Question-based Commentary) documenting their works in progress) 

  • Compassion and empathy are at the forefront for our student's best interests in terms of emotional and physical capability, program/session pacing, and availability. 


Creative Writing Programming and Development

  • Reviewing programs in place, participating in development, and offering open feedback as the CW program shifts and changes to meet student needs and interests. 

  • Creating lessons based on CW programs as you take on CW students that are also based on students' areas of need and interest. 

  • Working with students to help them understand key concepts within Creative Writing 

  • Teaching skills to improve Creative Writing performance, including writer’s block strategies, understanding of literary devices, revision and editing skills, and practicing and establishing a creative routine. 

  • Conducting Question-Based Commentary for critiques and revisions, in consecutive read-aloud, 1-on-1 portions during sessions. 


Administrative Work 

  • Independent workers able to schedule, manage, and balance their working hours, preparation hours, client/guardian engagement meetings, development meetings with Senior staff. 

  • Manage student folders within Google Workplace, Figma, etc for student/guardian reference. 

  • Open to collaborative work within the community requiring local engagement via phone inquiries, email inquiries, remote meetings to discuss hosting events and programming for local partnerships with InfinityEd. (Libraries, farms, senior centers, other educational institutions, vendors markets, etc) 

  • Basic upkeep of in-center workspace. 

  • Providing inventory needs to Director as needed. 


Skills and qualifications 

Thorough knowledge of general academia, editing and revision skills, test preparation and college application experience, and expertise in facilitation of said specific subject areas. 


Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions and deliver feedback. 


Ability to motivate and encourage students to improve their academic performance using effective goal-setting strategies. 


Creativity and flexibility in order to personalize their learning approach for individual students. 


Patience and compassion for students as they develop skills and improve their performance. 


We require a minimum of one year of experience within field and background checks subject to all candidates. 


Experience working with elementary, secondary (middle and high school), College level students. 


Must be able to work on site in our teaching center at InfinityEd’s office in Wilbraham, MA. (Required) 


Ability to engage in remote sessions from a reliable home computer. (Preferred) 


Interest in program development and revision of existing programs (Preferred)

Pay/Job Type: 

$16.25/hr (room for full-time and payment raises) 

Part-time (potential for full-time positions) 

Independent contractor 


Schedule: 

Hourly based on student/client caseload and their scheduling. Student/client schedules can look like daily, weekly, or bi-weekly sessions that range from 1-2 hours. 


Education: 

Bachelor's (Preferred) 

Experience/License/Certification: 

Teaching license (Not required) 

1 year of experience within field (Required); 2 years experience teaching, tutoring, facilitating in learning spaces (Preferred) 

1 years experience in creative based learning spaces (Preferred)
